I bought a reversing mirror monitor (for A $18.63 inc postage)from"
Fruitbig 222" which was poorly packaged and arrived broken.
He admitted it was broken after I sent photos,Did not send a new one. My
only redress aparently is refund but to get refund I have to send it back.
Australian postage is A $23 something.
My refund has been refused as I did not send it back for$23.00 to get
$18.00 aprox.
Eminently fair?

Done all that, (original transaction 11 may) exhausted all ebay and
paypal dispute channels over the past months.
Pay pal has ended dispute because I did not send it back
ebay is having a last ditch effort to get him to send another)

In the UK eBay used to send a pre-paid label, has that stopped?

They also claimed they would refund postage, has that stopped?

The one time I had issues with a cooker was where the seller said they
were moving and then ignored all further correspondence, including eBay
and PayPal. I wasn't going to dump unwanted litter at the seller's address.

After they closed the case my simple solution was to write to PayPal UK
in London (they have to have a UK address because they're a bank) and
threaten court action. 2 weeks later I received a full refund from eBay.

Of cause Australia might be different, but then this is uk.d-i-y!

Well yes if you claim for the postage as well, which is what I'd have done.

Just claim you did, but it never arrived.

That's what all ebay sellers do.

And buyers toos. Take the package claim it never landed

This is similar same seller .
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4-3-LCD-Screen-Car-Rearview-Headrest-Mirror-Monitor-For-Car-Reversing-Camera-FB-/182066926897?hash=item2a6408d531:g:gswAAOSwQjNW9XIU

http://tinyurl.com/zug758n

It has a bit I did not see originally
30 days money back if you pay postage, so I was stuffed from the
beginning but he should have sent me a new one but wanted me to return
old broken one first even though he could see the damage from my photos.

Of course not fair. I don't have a solution for you, but the few times
I have had an issue like yours, Paypal has always refunded me without
demanding I return an item <shrug>.

ANZ, OTOH once demanded I spend nearly $20 on postage to return some
coffee beans worth maybe $35 in order to be issued a refund. Which is
what I did, as there was no way I was going to let the retailer get
away with an unauthorised transaction. I would have spent $100 on that
postage, if need be.
