Maybe not all of them. While most of the modern rules are based
on synchronous logic, asynchronous (sometimes called self-timed)
logic is still around, with its own, different, rules.

Well, when the digital part fires up, I do have a clock, the serial
clock for the shift register. As long as that is clean (enough), then
there is no problem. This design has been working fine since 2004 or so.
