Yes the Romans in those days knew how to party. Drunken orgies were a
way of life. Interrupted periodically with some pillaging and
conquering and what not.

Don't you guys get the history channel? :-)

Oh, Vikings could do that as well.

Yea but they didnt wear those cool togas while they were doing it.

Hey, remember those
offices where one could actually open a window?

I still work and live in such a place. In fact, I've worked at
home most of my adult life in a one-storey, tin-roofed
wood-and-tile house in a nice residential area. The house has
bars only in the bedroom (put in a decade ago). In the summer,
I
just open the windows to my office and lab, and let the cool
breeze in.

So do I, but in August/September all that comes in is a warm
breeze
Smile

I know what such places are like. I've been in Delhi, the Indian
capital, a few times. It's freezing in winter and scorching in
summer. Not at all unusual to go well above 110 F. When there's a
breeze blowing, people hurriedly close their windows even in
buildings without air conditioning. Mumbai on the west coast is
better. It's hot through most of the year but not as hot as in
Delhi, and quite nice in December and January. South India just
stays hot (except in the hilly areas). I just sweat a bit less
there in December.

Oh, it's 1:00 pm here and I just had a look at the thermometer on
my back porch. It reads 71.5 F. I have the windows open and am
quite comfortable with just a T-shirt.

Like the Titanic disaster was caused by greed and errors of

and therefore no sympathy should be wasted on the passengers?

I spent 8 years in Europe. My father served with the Canadian Military

and was posted there twice. I rarely seen any snow in the winter the
whole time I was there unless we went skiing in the Alp's. This was in
Baden Solingen and Lahr. One place we went frequently skiing was
Bevier Austria (wrong spelling).

I travelled all over there playing hockey and on family trips I guess
I was pretty lucky. I do miss the Autobahn though:-).

We used to go to Rimini every summer, nice town.

ciao from Canada

Remind me again how the USA invaded and occupied the Titanic.

Another Chickenhawk who never served shoots his mouth off.

Neo-Cons always think guns and bombs are the answer.
If they were, we wouldn't be in the pickle we are
--y'know, most of our allies now being FORMER allies.

Most of the crap we have to deal with
is because the USA's only products any more are weapons.
After our corps sell them,
we are compelleled to send expeditionary forces
to deal with the havoc they cause.

....and what was our response in Haiti?
Invade (again)[1] with 10,000 troops.
Occupy the airport and turn away actual relief flights so that
military flights and the Hillary photo-op flights could land.
..
..
[1] Are *any* of the corporate media outlets[2]
mentioning the US invasion and occupation of that island
(1915 - 1934)?

[2] I stopped consuming corporate media some time ago.
When it bothers to cover a story,
it leaves out the important stuff.

Crusades were in response to Islamic capture of Christian holy lands.
the Vatican is in Italy because they had to move it from a city the Muslims
had overrun. Jerusalem was a Christian city. The Al-Aqsa mosque is built on
Jewish Temple grounds.

some folks don't know their history.

I spent a lot of time in Germany (1992-1994, IIRC), every few months,
summer and winter, in a town in the Black Forest, Bühlertal (about
100km NE of Freiberg, 100km west of Stuttgart).

My remembrances are mosquitoes in the summer, colder than a witch's
tits in winter, with lots of ice and snow.
