Use a graphical tool.

Unless they just *want* you to use chisels and stone tablets...

snip link now broken by Google.Groups

Links to webspace can be.

There is no universal newsreader that will allow 2D arrangements to
render correctly on all machines. Whatever you come up with will look
different on almost every machine that tries to read it.

There must be a finite number of formats, at least once the size,
font, etc. are adjusted. You should be able to go to a site which
would allow you to draw the flow chart in something like Word and it
would then convert it to text based images in the top dozen or so most
common formats.

Then post all the dozen or so formats by order of popularity telling
everyone to scroll down looking for something that looks like a flow
chart.

There might also be something similar for electronic circuits.

It's amazing what some people can present in text.

And it all looks like crap when viewed in Google Groups.

Your other responders have made suggestions that *will* look correct
in a web browser.
