A Sonalert in series with a 9V battery.

Add a series LED for visual.
Your biggest problem will be if the car's battery is hooked up.

Removing the 9V from the previously described jig

(and replacing it with a zero-ohm jumper;
a switch would be useful here)
then hooking the minus side of the Sonalert to the chassis
will also give a rough go/no-go test.

In addition, continuity beepers are a common feature
on repair-oriented DMMs.
